Dog Crate Lab publishes buying guides for heavy-duty dog crates & containment based on desk research — a structured review of publicly available information — not first-hand physical testing in a lab. We believe in being transparent about exactly how our recommendations are formed.

What "desk research" means here

Every guide draws on a combination of the following sources:

• Manufacturer specifications — published dimensions, materials, weight capacity, certifications, and other technical data supplied by the brand or retailer.
• User review patterns — trends and consensus drawn from publicly visible customer reviews on major retail platforms (e.g. Amazon), focusing on recurring praise or complaints rather than any single review.

What we do NOT do

We do not operate a physical testing lab. We do not perform in-house instrumented testing (e.g. load testing, durability rigs, pressure/temperature measurement) unless a specific guide explicitly states otherwise with disclosed methodology. Any number, rating, or performance claim you see should be traceable to a manufacturer spec sheet or a cited public source — not an internal test we conducted ourselves.
